How to choose the right wheels for you. First you have to think about what kind of riding you will be doing. Then ask yourself how good you are at it (be honest with yourself) and also how often you are long boarding. The hardness/softness, size, and contact patch all affect how you ride.
Almost all long board companies make wheels and everyone is different. But first let me tell you how wheels are made. They are melted down urethane (a type of rubber) and then poured into a mold. Most every company uses a different urethane formula and that is what gives a wheel its color, shape, feel, and softness/hardness.
A lot of companies like:
-venom
-sector 9
-landyachtz
-etc.
Make products other than just wheels.
No single wheel is exactly like the next because, there is so much customizability with them. Some people don’t really mind what kind of wheels they have and that’s fine but knowing what kinds of wheels you like and or need really improves the quality of your experience. For example if you are going to be going really fast down a steep hill then you’ll want something a little softer and with a wider contact patch but, if you are free riding you’ll almost want the opposite.
The lip of your wheel while small really makes a difference. One free ride wheels the lips are round as to not be folded under while going sideways. While racing wheels have square lips to prevent sliding because, what you really don’t want to happen is for your board to slide out from under when you’re at high speeds. That’s just bad news.
The next part of buying wheels is your cost. If your wheels are going to cost more than your trucks do yourself a favor and find something cheaper because if you get on a 60 dollar set of wheels and you don’t like them then that’s too bad because they are yours now and there is no returning them at that point. So now you’re stuck with wheels you don’t like while you’re waiting for the next payday or holiday.
And that’s basically all you need to know when buying wheels. Feel free to leave a comment below if you want or if you have any questions or suggestions.
